Where's the other half of the bridge?
AVIGNON.
The clocks have gone forward in France just as they have in the UK. We wake up totally confused as to the correct time. To compensate, we take a leisurely breakfast and close the van down ready to roll at 11am.
The journey to Avignon is scheduled to take 3 hours so we are under no pressure to arrive. We need to stop for provisions so find a supermarket and a McDonalds in Parc des Crozes outside Loriol. We're just in time, arriving at midday, as the store closes at 12:30.
Avignon is reached without trouble but a couple of wrong turns in the outskirts try the drivers patience. The campsite receptionist asks if the booking is in the name of Paul Gondee which I suppose I am in France.
He allows us to move our pitch so that we have a view of the city.
Time for a walk into the city. The route takes us over the bridge with a great view of the original bridge which stops halfway across, bizarre.
By the way, my position on the bridge is innocently coincidental.
The city is hosting a round the ramparts race which concludes as we enter the town square. A pity I didn't know about it in advance.
We find the Cathedral of Notre Dame. We enter in the middle of mass being said by four priests in German. No idea why in German in the south of France.
