A Truly Homemade Meal.

BOL, BRAC.

Wake early but still no sign of the owners so we leave a note for Mark asking him to thank them.

Drive to Supetar, the main port. I get stuck at a pedestrianised section and have to reverse a good way aided by my banksman, Rosie. It's a very pleasant village and we stand for a few minutes watching a local fillet last night's catch.

We call at the ferry ticket office and buy for our passage back to the mainland. We also ask about the trip from Place. After several attempts at the pronunciation, she understands us but tells us that there is no ferry. A check on the internet later suggests that she is wrong but we'll see in the next couple of days.

Travel down to Bol on the south of the island. Find a campsite that is open. The owner offers to cook us dinner. She asks what we would like and we plump for fish and vegetables. She can also do our washing.

The local beach is called Zlatni Rat. We cycle down the hillnand aling the promenade. The return won't be as easy. A lovely beach with an enticing sea. We go in but it is still very cold. An hour is spent warming up in the sea. The we visit The harbour for a reward. We choose the ic cream parlour, Rosie has a milk share and we share ice cream which looks like spaghetti. Fortunately, it isn't Bolognese flavoured.

We have to push the bikes up most of the hill but there is a pleasant surprise awaiting us, the washing is dried and ironed.

We eat at 7pm. The starter is a salad in homemade vinaigrette, the main course is fish and vegetables. Sea bass & gold bass along with spinach, courgettes, cauliflower, tomato salsa and potatoes washed down with white wine. All the salad and vegetables are from their gardens. The wine is produced here from purchased grapes (he grows grapes for red wine) and the olive oil is pressed from his olives. To finish a walnut liquor, from his walnuts of course.

Both the husband and wife are talkative, he used to be in local politics. A fascinating hour spent chatting after the meal on a wide range of subjects.
