Dubrovnic in a Day
ORASAC.
A pleasant surpise this morning, the site charge was a little over £10.
The challenges to my driving come thick and fast. We successfully negotiate our way out of the site only to come face to face with a dumped truck. He's bigger so I have to reverse round a bend.
Rosie has found a site before Dubrovnik but on a bus route. So we head for Orasac but miss the entrance and end up jostling for position with a school bus. He wins of course. The site is empty and we're about to leave when a woman appears and tells us to stay for £10 including electricity and hot showers. Later, we find the electricity works but the showers are locked.
I'm just locking the van when I hear a cry from Rosie. The bus is on the other side of the road. We have to run for it but fortunately he waits for us. Under £4 for the two of us gets us to the old town, or rather it does if you count the 10 minute walk downhill.
It really is a picturesque town. We walk through the narrow streets taking in the atmosphere. However, it's crowded considering what we have become used to.
A couple of hours is enough for us so we head to the bus station. It's a two mile walk so we stop for beer in the harbour near to the cruise ships. The return journey works well, the driver makes sure that we get off at the correct stop.
The village is at the top of the hill, our site lower down and the beach even lower. We walk down to the beach, all the while dreading the return journey. It's simply a harbour but does boast a bench. We enjoy watching the waves ripple in the sunlight. The journey back takes 10 minutes, we won't be repeating that tomorrow morning as originally proposed.
