"It's Against the Law"
BUDVA, MONTENEGRO.
A straightforward journey to the border. The Croatian side is easy, the Montenegran side a little more complicated. We hand in our passports but can't get them back until I've purchased a green card. This is simple, costs 18 euro but the civil servant cons me by giving me 2 Kuna in change instead of 2 Euro, 25p instead of £1.60. No wonder he smiled at me.
We shopped for provisions within a couple of miles of the border. The prices are much cheaper. The shop assistant seemed upset that we had bought plenty of water explaining that local water is very drinkable.
First stop is Kotor, it has an old town like Dubrovnik but on a smaller scale. A cruise ship is in port so we share the town with Americans and Koreans.
It's still early afternoon so we head on to Budva. Rosie has found free parking on the website. Unfortunately, I've read a notice that says it's illegal to park anywhere other than on a campsite. We find the car park which is used by the locals for the beach front cafes.
Budva has an old town as well. Much narrower and smaller than Dubrovnik and Kotor but better for it.
We walk along the sea front after dinner. Quite a pleasant atmosphere and a buzz about the place. Notice that Rosie has to be in the photo even when she isn't!
The parking spot is a good one under trees but I worry that the notice I read will result in us being moved along or worse. I fall asleep with the strains of Paul Simon's " It's against the law" resounding in my head.
