"You can't get meat for soup in Hale!"
KRVAVICA.
The bird's dawn chorus wakes us at 5:30. We go back to sleep to be woken by the roadworks at 7:30. Still, it's another fabulous morning so we can't complain.
On the road before 10 am, we plan to make Krvavica by night time. The first stop is on the peninsula of Peljesac at Ston. A walled town where the walls continue high up into the hills. There's a race up the walls in September which makes the King of the Hill in Marsden tame by comparison.
A drink of homemade lemonade each and we're on our way to Orebic. The plan is to sit on the beach for s couple of hour's before catching the ferry back to Ploce. It's a lovely harbour with a dozen restaurants, a couple of bakeries and a bank. It's easy to while away the time here.
On to Trabanj. We see another sheep dog that looks like a sheep, this time black. Rosie gets talking with the lady owner. She tells us that it's a Croatian Sheepdog, the second best sheepdog in the world behind the collie. It transpires that she is the mother in law of a Croat who played for Big Sam (Her words) at Blackburn (Nikola Kalinic). Despite playing for Blackburn, he lived in Hale. She visited him there but bemoaned the fact that meat wasn't good enough for soup.
We're first on the ferry and second off so we get get a good run at the final leg. We arrive at 7:30 and there is space. The bad news is that it's fully open and we'll have to pay for the night. Ah well, you can't win them all.
