WIJK BIJ DUURSTEDE.
Cycle to the parkrun. A few stragglers including a Pole at 8:40 but no sign of the organiser. He turns up at 8:45. We help him put outq the signs and start at 9 on the dot. The winner is a German who now lives in Leicester. However, he doesn't run the full course so should he be disqualified? A small field of 17 makes me run faster than of late. Finish in 5th. One lap course around the man made lake.
I'm in trouble when I finish, I've got the toilet block card in my pocket and Rosie is sat cross legged at the van. No time for goodbyes, I cycle back as quickly as I can.
Bacon for breakfast, naturally.
On the road by midday. We're heading for Utrecht in the Netherlands. Stop halfway for cheeseburger at McDonald's. We decide on a harbour on the outskirts of Utrecht ( probably 30 miles away).
The harbour master explains that we can stay but a wedding is taking place in the harbour so it might be a little noisy but only until 11pm. The bonus is that the 10 euro fee includes a shower.
Go for a walk around the town. Rosie finally buys the Sjoelen game we played with Aileen and Jos.
We're looking for the Catholic church for a mass tomorrow. We meet a Canadian couple doing the same. Her mother was from Holland so she's familiar with our newly purchased game. Spend 10 minutes talking to them. They are from Alberta and recommend a visit. Canada is already on our bucket list.
Dinner in the van is followed by a walk along the estuary. The fields are home to some lovely horses. They have the most striking manes, almost zebra like . Then, back into town. Another wedding is taking place, this one more traditional in a hotel restaurant. The square is abuzz with diners and drinkers. Two middle-aged couples finish their meals and climb aboard push bikes. No question of drink driving, I suppose.
