Walking In The Footsteps of Heroes.
CABO DE SAO VINCENTE.
Our first task is to find water so we head for Almograve further along the coast. It's a fabulous view but there is no water. We settle on using the toilets in the pretty town.
We're heading for the south west tip of Portugal and thus Europe. A pleasant route which includes a nice picnic spot for lunch.
The temperature approaches 20 degrees Centigrade as we travel south. The final town is Sagres which we suspect is the home for one of Portugal's beers. The local InterMarche garage offers services for motorhomes, including water. So, we're feeling much happier. The lighthouse is obviously a tourist venue offering museum and gift shop. Still, the views are fantastic. Portuguese sailors left here not knowing if they would fall off the edge of the world. Their courage is almost incomprehensible.
We decide to walk back to Sagres. It us a journey of 6 kilometres. We have earned the beer in the bar on the outskirts of the town. Forego the second as the light is beginning to fade. Stop at a second bar 2 miles from the van. The cliffs opposite drop down to a beach full of surfers. The increased prices reflect the tourist attraction. Dinner in the van with the south westerly wind howling outside.
