Where Did That Hour Go?

TRAKAI.

We're back on the bikes by 8:30 to cycle to mass at Wigry. Cars race past us in such a hurry. We realise why when we arrive at a packed church and have to sit on the small bench. The 5 priests con-celebrating mass make the most of it, mass lasts an hour and a quarter. We're glad that we didn't wait for midday.

Less than an hour after leaving the campsite, we are Lithuania. Naturally, the scenery is very similar but Poland seems much more affluent by comparison. We stop for a coffee in a wooded layby? The sign announcing it is a pine tree sitting at a picnic table.

Our original plan was to stay in Vilnius, but Rosie has found a dream castle on a lake. Satnav has one of her wobbles and takes us down a narrow lane with the trees scratching the van. The site owner has a full car park but still manages to squeeze us in. We move the van to a more comfortable slot later in the evening.

In the meantime, we walk to the castle and around the lake. In doing so, we seem to have lost an hour. My phone is saying 17:00 yet we are sure that we arrived about 15:30. The clock in the town confirms my phone is current. It transpires that we are now on Eastern European Summer Time, two hours' ahead of the UK.

No food in the van and no shop open means that we have to eat out. It's a hard life. Rosie picks pork in a mushroom sauce whilst Paul opts for chicken breast stuffed with tomato and mozzarella. We can finish with a pancake each (there are two on the menu but the waitress kindly puts one each on two plates).

We've seen a motorhome from Italy several times this afternoon. Ultimately, he arrives in our car park. We're not sure where he's been looking.
