Line Dancing In Lithuania.

KLAIPEDA.

We take a slight detour off our route to get close to the Russian border. We get to within 300 metres before we encounter customs and have to make an abrupt u turn.

Rosie is desparate for a laundry. Our first stop is at Silute. The laundry is at a harbour. It takes a couple of attempts to find it including a walk along pedestrian only streets. The workers don't know of the washing machine but we can use the shower if we want to.

On to Klaipeda. We turn in and out of inner city streets packed with cars. The first is a commercial laundry and thus dismissed. The second involves avoiding a collision between two cars which needed the fire brigade to separate them. And, it turned about to be a laundry that you leave the clothes at.

So, on to look for the ferry to the Spit of land we intend to visit. There are two ports, an old and new. The old is difficult to access, the new is difficult to find. Eventually, we park at a stadium and walk. The international port sails to Germany, Sweden and Denmark. The "new" port is a poor relation. There is one bonus, the port is overlooked by an Ibis Hotel. There is a car park opposite which is free for overnight parking.

A two mile walk into the city gets us to the old part. We enjoy a beer then decide to stay and try the local cuisine. Rosie chooses beef tongue stroganoff whilst Paul opts for chicken studded with white bread croutons. They tasted far better than they sound. On the way back through the square, we encounter a mass line dancing session. We can't work out if this is a regular occurrence or a special event.
